Turn Slack Messages Into Tasks Automatically Using AI

Yog Sharma4 min read

Stop copy-pasting between Slack and your task tracker. With the Slack integration in Zyvia, you can turn Slack conversations into tasks in seconds and keep work in one place.

What You Get

  • Create tasks from Slack. Mention Zyvia in any channel and create a task from the message. No need to leave the conversation or switch apps.
  • Link messages to tasks. Attach Slack messages to existing tasks for full context. Anyone opening the task can see the original discussion.
  • Updates in Slack. See when tasks are created and open them directly from Slack. A link is posted back in the thread so everyone can jump straight to the task.

How to Set Up

  1. Go to Settings, then Integrations, then Slack in your Zyvia workspace.
  2. Click Connect Slack and authorize when you're redirected.
  3. Once connected, you're ready to create tasks from any channel.

That's it. No complex setup, no API keys. Just a few clicks and you're done.

Create a Task From a Message

When someone @mentions Zyvia in a connected Slack channel, here's what happens:

  1. Zyvia replies in the thread with a prompt: "Create a Zyvia task from this message?" and a Create task button.
  2. Click the button to open a modal. Add a title, description, pick a team, and optionally assign someone.
  3. Submit. The task is created in Zyvia, and a link is posted back in the Slack thread.

No copying. No switching apps. Everything happens right where the conversation lives.

Pro tip: The message text is pre-filled as the task description, so you can tweak it or leave it as is. Perfect for bugs, feature ideas, or follow-ups that need to become tasks.

Link Slack to Existing Tasks

For tasks that already exist in Zyvia, you can attach Slack messages for context. From any task page, add a Slack message link in the External links section so the conversation stays connected to the work item.

Why does this matter? When someone reviews the task later, they can see exactly what was discussed in Slack without digging through channels or DMs. That context keeps everyone aligned and speeds up handoffs.

Why It Matters

  • Fewer context switches. Create and track tasks without leaving Slack. Your team stays in flow instead of bouncing between tools.
  • Clear traceability. Messages stay linked to tasks. No more "which Slack thread was this again?"
  • Faster planning. Turn ideas and bugs into tasks as they're discussed. Capture work the moment it comes up.
  • Team alignment. Everyone sees the same Slack and Zyvia connection. New teammates and stakeholders get full context.

Common Use Cases

  • Bug reports in Slack. Someone reports an issue in a channel. @mention Zyvia, create a task, assign it. The discussion stays linked.
  • Feature requests. A customer or teammate shares an idea. Turn it into a task right away instead of losing it in the chat scroll.
  • Sprint prep. During standup or async updates, create tasks from messages as they come in. Less manual entry, fewer missed items.
  • Cross-team handoffs. Link the Slack thread to the task so the next team knows exactly what was agreed.

Tips for Getting the Most Out of It

  • Connect Slack early. The sooner your workspace is linked, the more natural it becomes to create tasks from conversations.
  • Use @mentions in the channels where work actually happens, not just a generic #general.
  • Add Slack links to tasks when you reference a discussion in comments or descriptions. Future you will thank present you.
  • Encourage the whole team to try it. One person creating tasks from Slack is helpful; everyone doing it transforms how you plan.
